COURSE OUTLINE
Medical emergencies can happen anywhere, even in the dental office. As healthcare professionals, we owe it to our patients to be prepared to keep our patients as safe as possible. When a medical emergency arises, we still owe our patients proper care.

This full-day seminar will review the more common and the more dangerous emergencies that we might face. We will review office set-ups as well as treatment steps (including emergency drugs) and strategies to make your team more competent and more comfortable.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
-The incidence of medical emergencies and how to anticipate and recognize them;
-Patient health history reviews;
-Emergency airway management;
-Pharmacology and use of medical emergency drugs;
-Medical emergency kit review;
-How to treat the treatable medical emergencies (scenarios and algorithms), and when to get help;
-How to organize your team and your office to ensure the best possible outcomes.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Nkansah received both his DDS degree and Diploma in Dental Anaesthesia from the University of Toronto. He is a certified specialist in Dental Anaesthesia and maintains a private practice at Sleep For Dentistry in Toronto. In addition, he is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry. Peter is a Course Director for both the conscious sedation continuing dental education course at Western University (Canada) and for Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support courses at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is a member of the editorial board for the dental journal Oral Health. He is also a regular lecturer for dental groups nationally and internationally. On the sports front, one of his other areas of interest, Peter is the team dentist for the Toronto FC of the MLS, the Raptors905 of the NBA’s G-League, and the Toronto Raptors of the NBA.
